Nordisk Film is partner and distributor, when the best selling and most prestigious crime trilogy of the North by Stieg Larsson is filmed in Sweden; “Men Who Hate Women”, “The Girl Who Plays with Fire” and “The Air Castle that Blew up.”
The actors who will play Mikael Blomkvist and Lisbeth Salander is one of Sweden’s most acclaimed actors within theater, movies and TV, Michael Nyqvist, and Noomi Rapace.
The director of the fist movie, “Men Who Hate Women”, is Danish filmmaker Niels Arden Oplev. The screenwriters for the first two movies are the team behind “King’s Game”, Rasmus Heisterberg and Nikolaj Arcel. Ulf Ryberg writes for the third and completing part.
The production for all three movies will begin in the spring of 2008, and the first movie premieres in the Nordic countries in spring 2009.
The two following movies, “The Girl Who Plays with Fire” and “The Air Castle that Blew up”, are aired on SVT and furthermore released on DVD.
The movies are co-productions between Yellow Bird, Sveriges Television, Nordisk Film and ZDF Enterprises, and Nordisk Film is Nordic distributor. Nordisk Film Post Production in Stockholm are doing the post production, while Nordisk Film Edit and Nordisk Film Audio will handle editing and sound.
The excellent trilogy by Stieg Larsson has sold close to two million copies in Sweden alone and has like Denmark also topped the sales charts in Norway and Finland. Furthermore, the trilogy has had big success in Germany and France as well as the rest of Europe.
